LED technology

HID technology

They are known as light-emitting diodes. A diode is an electrical device that has two electrodes through which electricity flows in only one direction. Diodes are generally made of semi-conductive materials such as silicon etc.

They are known as high-intensity discharge lights. HID lights operate by transmitting an electrical charge between two tungsten electrical conductors (and through an ionized gas (known as "plasma") housed within the bulb to generate light.

While choosing from both the options we need to check for the affordability and longevity of the light sources and the benefits associated with them. LED parking lot lights are high efficiency in terms of bright lumens and maintenance. They generate low heat and require less maintenance than the traditional ones. Let’s discuss the difference between LED and HID light sources.

Difference between HID and LED light sources?

HID (High-intensity discharge lights)
  • The ballast used to create the arc often wears out very quickly due to the large amount of energy that passes through it.
  • The average life span is 20,000 years and regular maintenance is required.
  • They are fragile and contain mercury. These lights are not eco-friendly and consume a lot of energy when warming up.

LED (Light-emitting diodes)
  • LEDs have an extremely long lifespan of more than 50,000 hours when compared to HID light fixtures.
  • They are extremely energy efficient because they waste little amount of energy. LED lights require less maintenance and they work more efficiently.
  • They do not contain any harmful toxins or gases. They are easy to dispose of and do not harm the environment.

While HID generates a lot of heat while consuming power, LED light sources consume less energy and save money on utility bills. So choose the perfect LED option for your residential and commercial spaces and start saving money.
